When you purchase a home in the state of South Carolina, by default, your property taxes are billed at the higher non-legal residence tax rate. You MUST APPLY for legal residence very quickly in order to avoid being charged a tax rate of 2X-5X more than the legal residence rate. The tax bill for the year is sent out during the months of October thru December. In other words, taxes for the year of 2021 are sent between Oct 2021 and Dec 2021.
